Diabetes is divided into two types mainly type 1 and type 2. Type 2 diabetic people do not show any signs and symptoms of the disease so it is advised that they go screening test after the age of 45.
At the initial stages of symptoms of diabetes are high blood sugar levels i.e. when the blood sugar level is high and above 160 to 180mg/dL. When the glucose level is high the kidney excretes additional water and this leads to urination and dehydration is common.
To compensate the body requires water, so excessive thirst is natural. A person losses weight because of calories loss in urine. Type 1 diabetic people lose weight easily compared to type 2 diabetic people.
The symptoms in type 1 diabetes develop abruptly and progress rapidly leading to a condition called ketoacidosis. In spite of high level of glucose in the body the cells cannot utilize them properly due to shortage of insulin in the body. This makes fats cells to break down producing ketones and other toxic chemical compounds that make blood acidic.
The most common symptoms for ketoacidosis, are increase in thirst and urination, vomiting, faintness, weakness and pain in abdomen. Fruit like odor from the mouth. If proper treatment is not given ketoacidosis leads to coma and death.
People with type 1 diabetes develop ketoacidosis even after starting insulin treatment if they miss an injection or get over stressed due to infection or accident or serious medical condition.

Diabetic people need to take diet rich in fiber content. Well balanced diet is essential. Diet should have proper nutritious values. Food should not be heavily rich in carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
Fruits and vegetables rich in fiber are apple, bananas, apricot, dates, raisins, carrot, beans, broccoli, peas.
Diabetes is mainly due to sedentary kind of lifestyle. People with diabetes need to take part in physical activities like running, swimming, skipping.
