Major Gout Symptoms And Its Treatment

Generally it is difficult to predict the gout attack. Most of the times it starts at night. Symptoms of gout start and develop rapidly and last only for about 5-10 days. But most of the times there are signs of gout returning back. Usually when the gout disappears a person feels normal back again.

The foremost symptom of gout is acute pain in the joint especially in the big toe. The main symptoms of gout are inflammation, red and shiny skin at the joint, itchy and peeling skin over the affected joint region, bulging and swelling. The pain in the joint is so intense that it makes walking and moving around very difficult.

Big toe is the main target of gout in most of the cases. However gout can affect other various joint like fingers, wrist, hand, elbow, ankles and heels. It is very important to start the gout treatment as soon as possible.

The major causes of gout are Genetics play a vital role

Men are more affected with gout than women it occurs to them in the age group of 30-60 and it women it occurs to them after menopause. High intake of alcohol especially beer leads to high uric acid levels in the body. Being obese is also the main reason of gout.

Intake of certain medicines is also the cause of the gout The gout patients needs to take following prevention steps Take proper fluids Keep body weight under control Diet can also be the main cause of gout. The diet should be low in purine content.

The following diet is recommended Diet which is rich in complex carbohydrates Low in protein contents

Should be low in fats Examples of such foods are cherries, blueberries, bananas low fat dairy products, foods which are in vitamin C, breads, rice, cereals. Gout diagnosis is difficult as it shows irregular behavior with uric acid levels. A needle is inserted in the joint and lubricant fluid is taken and observed under a microscope to see whether uric acid crystals are there are not.

Gout if untreated may lead to serious complications like

1. Kidney stones 2. Kidney damage 3. Gout affects several joints in the body
