Main Treatments For Tinnitus

By Connor Rusty

There are a number of treatments for Tinnitus out on the marketplace and depending on the severity and cause of your ears ringing the success percentage can be quite high. Doctors define Tinnitus as the sensation of hearing air rushing through your ears or a ringing noise that has no external source. In this article I will cover the three main treatments for Tinnitus which include drug therapy, Tinnitus maskers and Tinnitus Retraining Therapy.

Drug therapy is used for a treatment of Tinnitus when it is believed an ear infection is at work. Due to the potential health risk that infections can bring it is essential to begin your Tinnitus relief path at your doctors offices so it can be caught early.

If a ear infection is found the doctor will prescribe a ten day course of antibiotics that will hopefully solve both of the infection and the Tinnitus symptoms. If an ear infection is left untreated it cal lead to permanent hearing loss, severe Tinnitus and possibly death. Once you have started taking the medication make sure you take all that is prescribed to you to insure the infection is truly gone.

Tinnitus maskers have been a popular treatment method in the past and it can offer some relief from those suffering from this hearing disorder. With the use of a masker the persons ears are filled with a more pleasant background noise than that of the noise associated with Tinnitus. The success percentage of maskers differs from case to case and the severity of the illness.

A quick test to see if a masker would work for you head over to the kitchen sink and turn the faucet all of the way on. If you hear just the rushing water than a Tinnitus masker may work for you but if you can still hear the ringing in your ears chances are a masker will not work in your case.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is a more recent relief method for Tinnitus and depending on who you ask the success rate ranges greatly. The purpose of this Tinnitus treatment is to hit the disorder from all angles with the use of maskers to cognitive therapy to hearing specialists. With all of the resources that this type of treatment advertises the expensive associated with it is pretty darn high.

Tinnitus is a hearing disorder that can lead to permanent hearing loss and it affects the lives of the sufferer and the people around him or her. Along with the before mentioned Tinnitus treatments there has been a ton of research and success when it comes to a more holistic approach. My advice to you is to explore all viable Tinnitus treatment options and pick the best one for your individual case.
